New Edition of Stella Adler’s book ‘The Technique of Acting’ released on July 26th

Two book cover designs for Stella Adler's The Technique of Acting

Posted on July 26, 2024 by casey

Coinciding with the studio’s 75th Anniversary, Stella Adler’s book The Technique of Acting will be available in a new edition from Echo Point Publishing later this month. For the first time in over 30 years, this edition will include an introduction from Artistic Director Tom Oppenheim and new insights from Stella’s students Donna Murphy and Kate Mulgrew.

Donna Murphy said, “Studying with Stella Adler at 18 years old cracked open my mind, heart & soul. It was initially intimidating; the concept of the responsibility of being an actor. But as I matured, I came to understand that she was teaching us to lift the expression of the Human experience to a place that could inspire, heal, provoke & bring love & understanding to all who witnessed the work, and beyond.”

Said Kate Mulgrew, “The incomparable Stella Adler changed my life, and in this book the reader will see how her technique, at once original and brilliant, serves to bring her vividly to life: her size, her passion, her exquisite understanding of human nature and, most importantly, her unparalleled gift as a teacher.”

The Technique of Acting serves as an introduction to Stella Adler’s unique approach to acting but also to a more creative way of life for actors and non-actors alike. It includes crucial principals such as Imagination, Given Circumstances, Actions, Justification, Character, Working on the Text, as well as her important essay, On My Way to Stanislavski. Coming in the studio’s 75th Anniversary year, the republication of The Technique of Acting will give actors, directors and theater artists insight to Adler’s singular approach. Paperback and hard cover copies are available for pre-order via Bookshop, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon. The Technique of Acting will also be available for sale on site at the Stella Adler Studio this September.
