SpaceBridge is a workshop program and a live performance conceived and directed by Irina Kruzhilina. SpaceBridge brings together Russian refugee children, who fled to the US due to their families’ anti-war stance and now live in NYC shelters, with American peers to build lifelong friendships while coming to terms with their differences. The performance tracks immigrant children as they integrate into American society and wrestle with questions of heritage, collective responsibility, and guilt by association. SpaceBridge is devised and performed by eleven young Russian refugees, aged ten to fifteen, alongside eight American-born participants of the same age. They are currently training at the Stella Adler Studio in a free weekend program led by Christa Kimlicko Jones.
SpaceBridge, produced by La MaMa ETC, En Garde Arts, and Visual Echo, will be presented at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club from January 7–11, 2025, as part of the 2025 Under the Radar Festival.
