Matt Gehring is a director, writer, and educator known for his work across comedy, theater, and television. He’s directed over 100 shows, with work seen from The Signature Theater to Joe’s Pub to the Edinburgh Fringe, including Pop Roulette’s Amazing Earth featuring Bowen Yang, Chrissy Shackelford’s Diane Shangri-La: Not Dry Yet, plus collaborations with Chloe Troast, Alexis Gay and Matt Rogers. He was a former Just for Laughs: Montreal New Face. Matt’s on-screen credits include The Tick, Set It Up, and The Characters with Tim Robinson. He co-created and directs SHIZ: Broadway Meets Sketch Comedy with Tony Winner Shaina Taub (Suffs) and has developed original work for Comedy Central and Netflix. He has taught at NYU Tisch, UCB, NYFA, and Brooklyn College, where he guides artists to develop their voices and create new work, and is a longtime member of the Story Pirates. For five years, Matt led the comedy residency CAMP at the Obie Award–winning Ars Nova, developing 25 original shows. Matt holds an MFA in Theater Directing from Brooklyn College, where he was a Shubert Scholar, and currently serves as the Comedy Division Director at Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
