Mask and Movement

Elena Zucker is a playwright and director. Combined writing/directing projects include: Thread, (Perth, Australia); O Walter, My Walter, (C.O.W. Theater, NYC; recipient of the 2011 Goldberg Award for Playwriting at NYU); My Funny Valentine, (Access Theater, NYC); Concentric Circles, (Bailiwick Theater, Chicago); Imaginary Prisons, (Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Fringe First Award Nomination). Selected other writing includes: 6-Lane, (Production, Millibo Art Theater, Colorado); Parsippany Rhapsody and Slow Loris (Production, Stella Adler Studio of Acting); A Golem and a Half (development, LaMaMa, Etc) and A Dybbuk in Crown Heights (development, The Vertical Company). Directing credits range from an Early Music opera cabaret that toured Europe to a movement theater piece at the Ontological/Hysteric. Elena has taught physical acting classes at universities around NYC, and is a member of the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab. She is the Artistic Director of The Vertical Company, a theater company dedicated to the creation of new work. She received her MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU, her BA from Middlebury College, and the diploma from the École Jacques Lecoq in Paris. www.theverticalcompany.tumblr.com
