Robbie Simpson

  • Director of Musical Theater Programs

Robbie Simpson (he/him/his) Robbie is best known for directing the 2021 and 2022 National Tour and New York City production of A Charlie Brown Christmas. The New York Times, Newsweek, and Time Out featured the show as one of the top events of the 2021 holiday season with performances on NBC, FOX5’s Good Day New York, and Pix11 Morning Show.  Robbie recently finished his tenure as the Artistic Director of the Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Chicago directing productions of Cabaret, The Legend of Georgia McBride and will return this fall to direct The Addams Family. Additional directing and associate credits include Bright Star at Theatre Aspen, Deathtrap at The Majestic Theater, Afterglow at the Hudson Theater in LA, and the Broadway National Tours of Chicago and A Christmas Story among others. Robbie is the former Associate Artistic Director of the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts. Acting credits include Chad (recurring) on ABC’s GENERAL HOSPITAL, Hulu’s THE PATH, AMC’s DIETLAND, and SyFy’s HORROR MOVIE. Off-Broadway credits include Afterglow and Paradise Lost as well as work with The Mint, The Gingold Group, and The Juilliard School. Regionally, Robbie has played leading roles at The Old Globe, Syracuse Stage, St. Louis Rep, Cape Playhouse, The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, Berkshire Theater Festival, and will play Algernon in The Importance of Being Ernest in January 2024 at The Majestic Theater. Robbie is the host of The Breakdown podcast featuring interviews with Joe Mantello, Jack O’Brien, Michael Arden, Walter Bobbie, Judy Kuhn, Gavin Creel among many others. Robbie has a BFA from Syracuse University, MFA from The University of San Diego and is a proud member of Actors Equity and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Union.
