Summer New Works Performance Intensive

This program offers a unique opportunity for the teen ready for a more advanced and performance-focused experience. Students spend the 5 weeks immersed in a rigorous and challenging rehearsal process that culminates in public performances. This intensive includes working on original material written specifically for the teens by playwrights commissioned by the studio.
The focus of the program is to learn the skills of rehearsing material from start to finish, understanding what it is to use technique to craft a role from first rehearsal to performance while working directly with playwrights on original, commissioned work. It offers the teen actor the experience of creating and rehearsing a show in a more professional environment.
The students (the company of actors) spend the morning working on their craft in Voice & Speech and Movement class. They then spend the afternoon working on original material commissioned for them by the conservatory written by professional playwrights. Students must attend a mandatory ‘Meet and Greet’ early in June, where they will meet the director and the writers. Classes are structured like professional play rehearsals, with writers attending throughout the summer, making edits to the script, and answering questions from the actors.
Program ends in 4 public performances of the work on August 8th and 9th. Performances are free and open to the public.
Many plays have gone on to have New York City productions using the original casts; three have been published; and one went on to win numerous writing awards. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about New York theatre from professionals currently working in the industry!

Admission to the Summer New Works Performance Intensive is by audition and interview. Applicants must be between the ages of 14-18.
Application:
If you are a former Teen Conservatory student, you do not need to submit a new application. Simply schedule an audition appointment or submit an audition video. If you are a NEW student, please submit the following materials:
- A completed Online Application Form. Notate the “New Works Performance Intensive” under additional programs on the first tab.
- Headshot (Photo) and Resume. If you do not have a professional headshot, it is okay, any clear photo of you can work.
- One Letter of Recommendation, including the referee’s address and telephone number. The letter should be from teacher or persons who can supply a recommendation as to the applicant’s character and potential. Referees may be contacted directly.
- A $50 non-refundable application fee (payable to Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Inc).

Audition Requirements:
The audition should consist of two contrasting contemporary monologues, no longer than 90 seconds each. Auditions will be submitted via video and interviews will take place over Zoom. After the interview and audition have taken place, applicants will be formally notified regarding their acceptance in the program.
